Events
- SaludAmerica is hosting its next #SaludTues Tweetchat on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, to discuss “Elevating Plant-Based Food Systems.” Co-hosted by 50by40, Better Food Foundation, and Good Food Institute, this event will look at why plant-based diets are good for people and the planet; and how to raise awareness about and push for policies to support healthy food systems.
Research and Data
- The Voices for Healthy Kids Action Center informs us that the UConn Rudd Center has recently updated the sugarydrinkfacts.org website with information from their latest 2019 Children’s Drink FACTS report.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released new state maps of adults' physical activity, showing that all states and territories had more than 15 percent of adults who were physically inactive, with a range from 17.3 to 47.7 percent. While HOST focuses on children and youth, we also see that health can be a community effort, as this post on "Community Health Resolutions for a New Decade" from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation shows.
- The Safe Routes to School National Partnership has released its "The Safe Routes to School Program Census Project 2019 National Program Assessment Report," an overview of the state of Safe Routes to School programming in the United States and a high-level assessment of challenges, innovations, and opportunities for Safe Routes to School programs.

- Action for Healthy Kids profiles Harlem Middle School in Loves Park, Illinois, which is using exercise to enhance the learning process, with creative ways to get students up and moving.

- The American Heart Association and the Food Research & Action Center have each issued statements in response to the USDA’s proposed rule “Simplifying Meal Service and Monitoring Requirements in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs (NSLP/SLB).”
