Events

  • The Safe Routes to School National Partnership is hosting a free webinar on Engaging Students with Disabilities in Safe Routes to School, June 19, 2018, 1-2 p.m. ET. They will discuss language, policy, and practice that engage students of all ability levels, as well as resources available to support practitioners working towards the inclusion of students with disabilities in Safe Routes to School. Ideas

  • The National AfterSchool Association shares a piece from Alliance for a Healthier Generation staff on "Advancing Student Wellness Through Out-Of-School Time, School and Community Collaboration." which explores ways OST programs can begin implementing the National AfterSchool Association's Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards, developed by HOST.
  • The Alliance for a Healthier Generation shares the thoughts of three out-of-school time professionals on the importance of out-of-school time and school collaboration to promote student health.

Successes

  • Baltimore has become the 10th city to pass legislation requiring healthier beverage options for kids’ meal offerings, ensuring that restaurants make the default beverage water, 100 percent juice, or milk, reports Voices for Healthy Kids.

Funding

  • Healthy Eating Research, a program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is awarding $2.6 million to researchers/research teams studying ways—either through current or new pilot policies/programs—to improve children’s nutrition habits and dietary intake to help them grow up healthy.
