Deidre Searcy

Deidre Searcy is a Senior Associate at Education Development Center and Curriculum Specialist within the YouthLearn Initiative, which develops technology integrated curriculum and training materials for educators in a range of settings, both domestically and overseas. Her current projects include curriculum development and training for Adobe Systems Incorporated signature grant program, Adobe Youth Voices. She was involved in the design as well as the development of the curriculum for the Girls Communicating Career Connections (GC3) project. The project, funded by the National Science Foundation is a youth-produced, Web-based media series with companion educator materials on science and engineering careers. Searcy is a media educator and arts education expert with 20 years of experience developing in and out-of-school curriculum. She is also an experienced, media artist, instructor and trainer who has designed and led project based trainings and workshops for youth and adults. Prior to joining EDC, she was Co-Director of Street-Level Youth Media where she worked to position media arts as a catalyst for change in inner city schools. Her work with youth has garnered recognition from the National Black Programming Consortium and the National Media Education Association and she served for several years on the board of directors for the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture.

A graduate of the Northwestern University with a Bachelors degree in Radio, Television and Film, Searcy completed MFA graduate coursework in Arts Education at The School of the Art Institute Chicago.

Searcy is also currently an advisor to Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE), a nationally recognized leader in the field of school improvement through the arts. Searcy is a frequent speaker on youth development, arts integration and media. She recently presented at the National After School Association Conference and the NSTA’s National Conference on Science Education.
